The captain and his trustworthy crew

By S.H.Moulana - Riyadh

Riyadh InterContinental Hotel, the pioneer five star facility in the capital of Saudi Arabia is always regarded as the flag ship of the InterContinental Hotels Group in the kingdom.

This includes Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn too.

This flag ship of the mighty chain was opened in early 1975 under the leadership of none other than the highly efficient and well respected Raymond George Khalife, hailing from Lebanon.

This role model of a General Manager soon ended up as the Vice President of Middle East/Africa region of the chain. He had a great hand-picked team under him, who strictly followed his noble principles and policies. ‘RGK’, as he is popularly known, commanded the love and respect of his team.

In return the team received the same from the subordinate staff working under it. Riyadh InterCon earned its reputation in the Middle East as a whole due to the admirable professionalism displayed by its first General Manager and his efficient team.

The three letters ‘RGK’ carried magical power in hospitality trade in the Arab world.

When I last visited him in his Vice Presidential office in Cairo, before his retirement from the chain, I noticed the love and respect he commanded from his regional staff there.

However, this humble personality proved once again by standing up from his seat to announce to the rest of the staff; ‘I have got my family members from Riyadh!’, pointing at me and my wife, who also has served him for a brief period, during his time in the kingdom.

Although he is no more in the chain he has not forgotten those who were with him heart and soul. He hosts an annual lunch in Beirut, Lebanon in a highly sophisticated restaurant, to say ‘Hi’ to his good old friends.
Being a great admirer of this unique personality I am always being honored to be updated with every event he involves in and information related to hospitality trade.
