EROS urges Keith Vaz to resign from Parliamentary Group for Tamils

London, 06 July, (Asiantribune.com): Blasting Keith Vaz, the British MP, as a a politico allied to the Tamil Tigers the Eelam Revolutionary Organisation (EROS) has urged him to do the right thing and resign as Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tamils -APPG(T) in the House of Commons.

EROS in a letter sent to Vaz has said: There is ample evidence to prove your close association with representatives of the LTTE and their front organisations in the United Kingdom. We strongly urge you to disassociate yourself from the LTTE and their representatives and focus on addressing the concerns of moderate democratic law abiding Sri Lankan Tamils living in the United Kingdom who have been victimised by the LTTE over the last 3 decades.

Any future role of the APPG(T) will be closely watched and scrutinized by the EROS and other political groups and organisations opposed to the LTTE. We trust that you will take into account our view and position and hope that you will do the right thing and disassociate yourself from the APPG(T) by resigning your position as Chairman or reconsider your position and the views of a majority of democratic and moderate Sri Lankans and disassociate yourself from the LTTE and their representatives if you wish to continue representing the APPG(T) as Chairman.“

Here is the full text of EROS letter sent to Vaz:

Date: 27 June 2007

Rt. Hon Keith Vaz MP,
House of Commons,
London,
SW1A 0AA

Dear Rt Hon. Mr Vaz,

Ref: “All Party Parliamentary Group for Tamils”

Thank you for taking the time in accommodating our organization for this meeting with you. Our delegation representing the EROS have come here today not to recognize the APPG(T) as a parliamentary body that represents the Sri Lankan Tamil community of the UK but to address our view point of the APPG(T) and highlight our issues with the formation of the APPG(T).

We wish to inform you that the Eelam Revolutionary Organisation and our political front the “EDF” a registered political party in Sri Lanka representing the Sri Lankan Tamil speaking people does not recognise the APPG(T) as the representatives of the Sri Lankan Tamil diaspora in the UK.

The APPG(T) does not represent the Sri Lankan Tamil community of the United Kingdom. It is our firm belief that the APPG(T) represents the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and their UK-front organisations and supporters. We believe that the APPG(T) has been formed to protect the interests of the LTTE (a banned terrorist organisation and fascist movement) and its international network of operatives and front organisations, businesses and companies in the UK, Europe and other countries.

You personally have no mandate to represent the Sri Lankan Tamil community and have not been elected by moderate democratic Sri Lankan Tamils living in the United Kingdom. You have been chosen to represent the LTTE through the APPG(T) by the LTTE and their representatives based in the United Kingdom.

There is ample evidence to prove your close association with representatives of the LTTE and their front organisations in the United Kingdom.

We trust that you will take into account our view and position and hope that you will do the right thing and disassociate yourself from the APPG(T) by resigning your position as Chairman or reconsider your position and the views of a majority of democratic and moderate Sri Lankans and disassociate yourself from the LTTE and their representatives if you wish to continue representing the APPG(T) as Chairman.

Yours sincerely,

Nesan Shankar Raji
