Mega Tourism Caravan “Days of Sri Lanka in Ukraine”, 1 – 14 October 2013

In continuation of the “Mega Tourism Caravan ” held in August 2013 in the Republic of Belarus, as part of the ‘Tourism Promotional Campaign’ in CIS countries, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation with the collaboration of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau will launch the fourth phase of the promotion campaign in the Ukraine from 1 to 14 October 2013.

The fourth phase of the campaign will commence from the city of Kharkov of the Ukraine and will take its journey through four other major cities of the Ukraine, Donetsk Dnepropetrovsk, Odessa and Kiev, covering a distance of almost 2000 kilo meters on wheels continuing the saga of “Mega Tourism Caravan”.

As successfully conducted thrice before, this long journey and the promotional campaign of almost two weeks, also aims at popularizing Sri Lanka in Ukraine, strengthening of cultural and business cooperation, enhancement of mutual understanding between the two countries and most importantly, promoting Sri Lanka as a Tourist destination. At each city, there would be promotional events at popular Shopping Malls.

These events will include Ayurweda Spa treatments, demonstration on the preparation of traditional handicrafts, cultural shows, Workshops for Tour Operators, Press Conferences and Photo Exhibitions.

Spectators of these events will also be served Ceylon Tea. Moreover, in the green city of Ukraine and city of Donetsk there would be a grand cultural show along with a reception held for leading travel and tour operators, media personnel, tea industrialists and the Sri Lanka Diaspora.

The promotional events held under the theme “Days of Sri Lanka in Ukraine ” would offer a unique opportunity to both the general public and tour operators of Ukraine to learn about the rich culture, scenic beauty, pristine beaches, traditional dancing, exotic flora and fauna, gorgeous cultural festival and many more of the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean”. This time, too, the main sponsor of the campaign is the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) under the patronage of Mr. Bashwara Gunarathna, Chairman of the SLTPB. Other major participants are Siddhalepa, Laksala and Sri Lankan Airlines. Cultural troupe led by veteran artiste Chandana Wickramasinge will conduct cultural shows at each city and will perform at shopping mall events.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation, under the assiduous and untiring leadership and guidance of Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga, is once again the main organizer of this “Mega Tourism Caravan 3”.
