The issue of the Leader of the Opposition in the Northern Provincial Council remains vague and still undecided.

Sources told Asian Tribune that, so far no date has been fixed for the swearing of the 8 UPFA members, elected for the North Provincial Council.

Also it is still unclear whether the the lonely member of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress would also come forward to take oaths before President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

As situation remains still murky, and no arrangements are being made about the swearing in, there are reports attributing one or two members elected in the UPFA ticket for the Northern Provincial Council as the leader of the opposition in the regional print and electronic medias published out of Jaffna.

Asian Tribune tried to go deep into this issue to find out who was behind such a disinformation campaign, when the UPFA authorities have not taken any move even to arrange for the swearing in of the elected 8 councilors to the Northern Provincial Council.

Subsequently, this writer contacted President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is also the Leader of the UPFA and took up the issue of the Leader of the Opposition to the Northern Provincial Council.

President in the course of the discussion told this writer, “Of course Mr. Angajan Ramanthan is the only academically qualified candidate amongst the elected councilors to the Provincial Council.” He further said, “Angajan is a professional - a qualified Engineer.”

This writer prompted, “He has an MBA degree also , furthermore the Jaffna district Organizer of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the only person most qualified to hold the position of the Leader of the Opposition academically as well as politically.”
