A new House for Rizana Nafeek's family

: A newly built house was handed over to the parents and family members of Rizana Nafeek yesterday.

Rizana Nafeek – the teenage house maid who went to Saudi Arabia in 2005 April was alleged of killing a 4months old baby boy and held in Prison since 25th May 2005.

She remained imprisoned nearly 8 years before she was executed in public and her inhuman execution became a shock wave for all Sri Lankans, irrespective of ethnic concerns.

Fulfilling the dream of late Rizana, teenager who flew to Saudi Arabia with an aspiration to provide shelter to her parents - a newly constructed house was vested to her family at a simple ceremony held in Tricomalee yesterday (13th October).

House comprised of all amenities was completed within a short span with the labor assistance and the technical expertise provided by the troops and the financial support extended by the academic staff of the Sri Jayawardenepura University (SJU) via "Rizana Fund".

Construction work of the house was carried out with the support of the Sri Lanka Army Engineers of the Engineering Service Regiment (ESR).

Ven. Abhayatissa Nayake Thera, Commander of the Army, SJU Vice Chancellor, Security Force Commander-East, General Officer Commanding of 22 Division, Tri-forces officials, SJU staff and large gathering were present at the occasion.
