Indian Coast Guard continue to train SL personnel

Colombo, 26 December, (Asiantribune.com):

Adding to the continuous training sessions conducted by the visiting Indian Coast Guard ships ‘Vishwast’ and ‘Rajkamal’, a pollution response equipment deployment exercise was carried out onboard ICGS Vishwast on last December 24th.

Participants from the Sri Lanka Navy, Coast Guard and observers from the Sri Lanka Army, Air Force, Marine Environment Protection Authority, Disaster Management Center and Ports Authority also participated in the exercise. The exercise amply displayed the capabilities of the Indian Coast Guard Ships in responding to oils spills.

Similar exercise was conducted by the ICG ships in Trincomalee for the participants of the Trilateral Tabletop Exercise (TTEX) 2013.

The ships are expected to carry out a passage exercise with the participation of Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard personnel when they leave Colombo on 26th December.

These training sessions have been conducted by the Indian Coast Guard personnel despite objections from certain politicians in Tamil Nadu.
