Sri Lanka Embassy In Brussels Celebrates Thai Pongal

Brussels, 21 January, (Asiantribune.com):

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brussels along with the Sri Lankan community living in Belgium, organized a Thai Pongal Celebrations on the 18th of January at the Embassy premises. It was attended by several Sri Lankan nationals living in Belgium along with the Honorary Consuls in Antwerp.

The preparation of the Pongal following the traditions practiced in Sri Lanka was a significant event during the celebrations. Hindu religious observance was conducted by Pandit Ram Prasad Dhungana.

P.M Amza, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Belgium and Luxembourg and the Head of Mission to European Union, in his speech explained the significance of Thai Pongal and the rich culture and heritage behind the celebrations.

The Ambassador further said that Thai Pongal is celebrated in all parts of Sri Lanka and all communities in Sri Lanka were using this occasion to further inter-communal bonds in the spirit of reconciliation.
