Colombo, 12 February, (Asiantribune.com):

The Jaffna High Court yesterday postponed without taking up for hearing the motion seeking bail to the Northern Provincial Council Opposition Leader Kandasamy Kamalendran.

Kandasamy Kamalendran is the chief accused person in the murder of the Delft Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Daniel Rexigan and an application for bail was moved in the High Court in Jaffna yesterday by his Attorney – at – Law Mudiyappu Remedius.

Yesterday the motion seeking bail came up before the Jaffna High Court Judge Annalingham Premsankar. The High Court Judge, without taking it up for inquiry, put it off for 20th of this month for hearing.

It has been pointed out in the motion for bail that Kandasamy Kamalendran was involved in the democratic activities since for a long period of time and now he is the Leader of the Opposition in the Northern Provincial Council and for the last two months he is in remand, hence he could not be able to be of any service to those people who voted for him..

Earlier, Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers arrested Kandasamy Kamalendran on 3rd December 2013 and his office assistant Lundan Sasindran and Rexigan's wife Enida Rexigan on 2nd December, in connection with the murder of Delft Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Daniel Rexigan and produced them before before the Kayts Magistrate and now all three accused persons are held on remand.

Delft Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Daniel Rexigan (44 years) was found dead with head injuries at his residence in Punkudithivu on November 26
