Alavi Moulana, whose great grandfather is from Yemen and the direct descendent of the Holy Prophet (Let Peace be with him) warned about the dangers of Wahabists and their anti-Islam, anti-religious ideologies. He said “The Wahabists don’t give respect even to the Holy Prophet. The concept of Wahabism is not been accepted internationally by the majority Muslims all over the world. It has gained acceptance only in a few Arab countries.

Since of late they have managed to infiltrate into Sri Lanka and created cells in some parts of the country. The concept of Wahabism is diametrically opposed to Sufism. Sufisim and Alhus Sunnah are accepted true religions.”

He added: “Available information reveals that Wahabists are bankrolled by foreign elements in Sri Lanka and are very vocal and active in the East especially in Kattankudy and Oddamavadi areas, Baragahadheniya in Kurunegala amd Tihiriya in Nittambuwa.

When Asian Tribune asked the Governor of Colombo about Wahabists threat to the country’s security, he said: “As far as I know Wahabists are growing gradually into a militant organization especially in the East and are posing a potential danger. In addition to posing a threat to the country’s security they are creating frictions and factions within the social fabric of the Muslim community in the east.”

Governor also explained that they are able to enroll unemployed Muslim youths in the East in particular and in the country in general and misleading and misguiding them. The Muslim youth can be driven in a dangerous direction and this has to be nipped in the bud.

He added that there are several court cases pending against the Wahabists in the East.
