Rio hasn’t made any approach to Naga political issue till date: Hokheto

Oken Jeet Sandham – Asian Tribune

Kohima, 13 May, (NEPS): The President of the NPCC Hokheto Sumi said there was no approach so far from the Rio Ministry to the Naga political issue since its coming to power, although they had promised even before the general election for bringing solution to the Naga political issue in three months time if they came to power.

Talking to NEPS here at the Congress Bhavan yesterday, the NPCC Chief said, “Since Neiphiu Rio came to power, I have not seen anything that he made any approach with regard to the Naga political issue.”

Sumi also stressed the importance of setting up an independent body consisting of dedicated people who were not influenced by any political party so as to become a pressure group to the Government of India and also those groups to expedite the peace process. These people should also, at the same time, enjoy the support of all sections of the people, he pointed out. “We had even suggested in the past to have a Christian Forum consisting of all sections of the people to initiate the process,” he said.

The NPCC Chief also expressed serious concern on the ongoing factional clashes in the state. He said the state government was looking the factional clashes helplessly without doing anything to curb it. He questioned the logic of the state government in sending 9 IRB to other state while at home needing their services the most.

“When such clashes occur, we need our own state forces at least to intervene and create buffer zone and this, our state IRB can do it,” Sumi explained. And those Indian army or any other central forces stationed in the state could not intervene because of the ongoing ceasefires between the Government of India and the factions.

The NPCC Chief also alleged that there had been divisions among the people economically after Rio came to power. “If you see the development, it is only in Kohima,” he stated. “What are there in the other districts?”
