Excavation at Mannar Grave Site Commenced Yesterday

Colombo, 04 March, (Asiantribune.com):

Excavation of skeletal remains at Manthai, Thirukethieswaram located at Mannar commenced yesterday before Ms. Ananthi Kanagaratnam, Mannar Magistrate / District Judge after a lapse of six days .

Asian Tribune learnt that yesterday the Judicial Medical officers from Anuradhapura were not present yesterday, hence the excavation of the skeletal remains did not take place.

So far 80 skeletal remains were recovered after the completion of the excavation for the 31st time.

Excavation works for the 32nd time commenced on Monday after a temporary suspension of excavation after 24th February. Excavation works were suspended due to Maha Sivarathiri religious ceremony.

Yesterday, excavation works were not conducted yesterday instead the grave sites were measured and they were involved in the drawings of the site.

Reports further revealed excavation works will not be conducted today but for 33rd time the works would commenced on Wednesday 5th March.
