Associated Airways Entrepreneur 2007 at SL-MBC Awards

Colombo, 05 October, ( The Sri Lanka – Malaysia Business Council (SLMBC) which functions under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, along their 13th Annual General Meeting held the third Annual Awards Presentation last week at Galadari Hotel with Malaysian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, Rosli Ismail as Chief Guest.

K D C E Wickramaratne was elected the President, SLMBC for 2007/2008 and Wan Zaidan Wan Mahyuddin (Dialog Telekom) and Kevin De Silva (Malship (Ceylon) Ltd) were elected Vice Presidents.

Dr Rohitha Silva, Out-going President detailed the work they carried out during his tenure of office.

The awards were presented under the categories of Manufacturers & Exporters, Travel & Hospitality, IT and other Business Related Services, Importer/Distributor/Retailer, Transport and Infrastructure.

The Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 award was clinched on a tie by Associated Autoways (Pvt) Ltd and Epic Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. The other Gold winners: Importer/Retailer/Distributor: KKK Distributors (Pvt) Ltd; Hospitality and Hospitality related Travel: Hemas Air Services (Pvt) Ltd; Manufacturers and Exporters: Associated Auto-ways (Pvt) Ltd; IT and other Business Related Services: Epic Lanka (Pvt) Ltd; Transport: MISC Agencies Lanka (Pvt) Ltd and Infrastructure Projects and Services: (Two Awards) Sincon International (Pvt) Ltd and drh Logistics (Pvt) Ltd.

Speaking at the occasion Mahen Dayananda, Chairman, CCC said that the have established 19 such Business Council but the SLMBC is special one and assured the continued support in all affairs of these Business Councils.

He said that there are so many award ceremonies in Sri Lanka but theirs has been regular business CSR and CCC encourages Corporates to engage in truly responsible CSR.

Among other Keith Perera who has been a Council member of SLMBC from its inception and as a former President was felicitated for his valuable contribution to the SLMBC

The distinguished highlights of Perera at SLMBC were leading 3 delegations to Malaysia on Investment Promotion Exhibitions; addressed the Malaysian Business Entrepreneurs on a South Asian Investment Promotion; invited for the Media interview in Malaysia along with the Deputy High commissioner Mrs Aruni Wijewardena; delivered the Vote of Thanks to Dr Mahathir Mohamed, former Prime Minister of Malaysia when Dr Mahathir came to Sri Lanka; introduced the Awards Scheme and invited Matarde for an exhibition in Malaysia.

He said that he was fortunate to be groomed by such personalities like Thilak De Soyza, Derick Jurianz and Selvanthan in taking SLMBC to what it is today.

He profusely thanked every one who helped him during his tenure of office as President, SLMBC in carrying out his duties in SLMBC to the present heights including Malaysian High Commissioners and their officials in Sri Lanka, CCC Secretariat, SLMBC Vice-Presidents and the Committees.

The new Committee comprises of: Associated Motorways Ltd (Ananda Caldera); Epic Lanka (Pvt) Ltd (Nayana Dehigama); Mackwoods Limited (Dr. Chris Nonis); Orient Electric Systems (Pte) Ltd (Ananda Rajapakse); Hemas Air Services (Pte) Ltd ( Ms Dushy Jayaweera); Public Bank Berhad ( Low Kok Song) Tilak Gunawardane and Immediate Past President, Dr. Rohitha Silva

Exports from Sri Lanka to Malaysia increased from Rs. 1,267 million in 2005 to Rs. 2,562 million in 2006, recording an increase of 102%. Imports too recorded a 35% increase from Rs. 33,429 million to Rs. 44, 992 million. Today Malaysia is the biggest investor in Sri Lanka.
