Kamalendran and two other suspects further remanded till 17th April

Colombo, 03 April, (Asiantribune.com):

The murder trial of the Delft Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Daniel Rexigan was taken up today at the Kayts courts and Magistrate S. Leninkumar further remanded until April 17th the three murder suspects namely - Kandasamy Kamalendran, Leader of the Opposition in the Northern Provincial Council, his office assistant Lundan Sasindran and Rexigan's wife Enida Rexigan.

Delft Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Daniel Rexigan (44 years) was found dead with head injuries at his residence in Punkudithivu on November 26, 2013.

Subsequently, Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers arrested Kamalendran on 3rd December 2013 and his office assistant Lundan Sasindran and Rexigan's wife Enida Rexigan on 2nd December, in connection with the murder of Delft Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Daniel Rexigan and produced them before Kayts Magistrtat and since then, the Magistrate kept them continuously on remand prison.

In the meantime Kayts Magistrate told Kandasamy Kamalendran that he should produce a letter from Commissioner of Election certifying that he is still a Councilor of the Northern Provincial to enable him to grant permission to allow him to participate in the Provincial Council sessions.

Earlier Kayts Courts granted permission for Kamalendran to participate in the Northern Provincial Council sessions.

But as Kamalendran has been removed from the membership of EPDP as well as from the UPFA, there is a likelihood of Kamalendran would even be removed of his Councilor position, hence Kayts Magistrate Leninkumar has ordered to produce the a certifying document from the Commissioner of Elections to enable him to provide necessary permission to participate in the Northern Provincial Council sessions.
