SAARC Leaders Arrives in Delhi

By Malladi Rama Rao
New Delhi, 26 May, (Asiantribune.com):

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai arrived here to attend the oath taking by Narendra Modi as the 15th Indian Prime Minister at a glittering ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, an imposing colonial era building on Raisina Hill.

Bhutan Prime Minister and Bangladesh Speaker arrived here yesterday. Later today the Maldives President and the Premiers of Nepal and Mauritius are expected to land.

The oath taking is scheduled for 6 pm IST.

The Modi cabinet will also be sworn in along with him; President Pranab Mukherjee will administer the oath of office and secrecy to them in the presence of more than 3000 guests from all walks of life. One of the special invitees is a tea seller from Gujarat, who had proposed Modi’s name when he entered the election fray in Vadodra.

The 63- year-old BJP leader has won an astounding victory for the party and rewritten the national politics for the first time in three decades.

True to his promise, the MDMK leader Vaiko staged a protest against the invite to Sri Lanka President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, whom he brands as a butcher of innocent Tamils.

The police broke the demo, and detained Vaiko and his party workers.
