A 9 road reopened yesterday

By Our Colombo Correspondent
Colombo, 10 May, (Asiantribune.com): The Alpha Nine highway (A9) linking the North and the South was reopened yesterday, after an abrupt closure on Monday, which the military attributed to security reasons.

Entry points in Muhamalai and Omanthai as well as Uiyankulam entry point in Mannar road and the Madu crossing point, all of which were closed Monday , are now open to public traffic.

The security forces said all the entry points to the uncleared areas (LTTE held areas) were closed due to certain cordon and search operations.

However it is understood that the immediate reason for the closure was due to a hartal called by LTTE front organizations in Jaffna against the disappearance of seven Tamil youth.

The security force has ruled out any involvement in the disappearance and police said an investigation had been launched into the incident.
