Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera assumed duties as the 19th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy

Colombo, 02 July, (Asiantribune.com):

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa appointed Rear Admiral Perera as the new Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy and promoted him to the rank of Vice Admiral with effect from 1st July 2014.

Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera assumed duties as the 19th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy at a ceremonial function held yesterday at the Naval headquarters, Colombo.

Prior to being appointed as the Navy Commander, he held the post of Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy.
He is replacing the outgoing Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Admiral Jayanath Colombage.

A special event was organised at the Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Navy on Tuesday morning when Rear Admiral Perera the New Navy Commander to assumed duties.

He was an old boy of Thurstan College, Colombo, and joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1978.

He had followed a Naval Staff Course in India and National Defence Course at the National Defence University Islamabad, Pakistan.

He also participated in the Combined Force Maritime Component Commander Course conducted by the United States Naval War College in Pearl Harbour, Hawaii.

Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera has commanded various ships in the Sri Lanka Navy including the Sri Lanka Navy Flag Ship SLNS Sayura.

He also served as the Deputy Area Commander for the Eastern Naval Area during the year 2006.
