Japan - Sri Lanka Parliamentary League To Visit Sri Lanka

Tokyo, 12 July, (Asiantribune.com):

The members of Japan-Sri Lanka Parliamentary League are scheduled to visit Sri Lanka by the end of July, 2014. In this context, Ambassador Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, met with both the President and the Secretary-General of the Parliamentary League to discuss the programme as well as other functionaries and meetings during their visit.

During the three-day visit, the Delegation would call on the President of Sri Lanka and Minister of External Affairs and would be hosted by the Minister of Economic Development and the Minister of Environment & Renewable Energy, among others. The Delegation would be led by the President of the League, Mr. Masahiko Komura, who is also the Vice President of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party [LDP] of Japan and the former Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Secretary-General, Madam Yuko Obuchi, the former Cabinet Minister and Senior Vice Minister for Finance, too would be in the Delegation. The 12 member Delegation would consist of senior Parliamentarians and political leaders of the Government of Japan.

The Japan-Sri Lanka Parliamentary League has 67 members, in total, consisting of Parliamentarians from the Liberal Democratic Party, Democratic Party of Japan and from other political parties. The President of Sri Lanka-Japan Parliamentary League in Sri Lanka is the Minister of Environment & Renewable Energy.

During the Presidential visit of 2013, the President of Sri Lanka hosted the members of the Japan-Sri Lanka Parliamentary League and the members of Japan-Sri Lanka Parliamentary League, in turn, hosted both the Minister of Economic Development and the Minister of Environment & Renewable Energy, when they visited Japan in September and in October of 2013. The League is visiting Sri Lanka after a lapse of 12 years.

It is strongly presumed that a visit of this nature and stature from Japan would further strengthen and deepen the bilateral relations, in all spheres, between the two countries.
