Voting today at the UVA Provincial Council Polls

Colombo, 20 September, (Asiantribune.com):

About 690,966 voters in the Badulla District and 323,764 in the Moneragala District were eligible to exercise their franchise at today at the Uva Provincial Council elections to elect 32 councilors.

There are 617 candidates from Moneragala and Badulla Districts vying for 32 seats in the Uva Provincial Council, and 14 political parties and 11 Independent Groups are contesting.

According to election commission there are a total of 834 polling stations in the two provinces made up of 516 in the Badulla District and 318 in the Moneragala District.

Polling booths would be open from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm and the counting postal votes will starts at 4.15 pm and other votes at 6.00pm and 71 and 39 counting centres had been set up in the Badulla and Moneragala Districts respectively.
