Sri Lanka President Returns After a Brief Sojourn to Italy and Vatican

Colombo, 06 October, (Asiantribune.com):

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa and First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa returned to Colombo yesterday, after successfully concluding a three day visit to Italy and the Vatican.

During the visit, President extended the official invitation to Pope Fancis 1, who is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka in January. The President explained the post war progress of the country during his meeting with the Pope.

The Pope expressed his desire to visit Sri Lanka. The President also met Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin. During the visit, the President met Sri Lankans in Rome and Milano as well as Sri Lankans living in the UK, France, Germany, Norway and Switzerland.

Chief Justice Mohan Peiris, External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Pieris and Ministers Felix Perera, Dayasritha Thissera, Project Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Deputy Ministers Neomal Perera, Victor Anthony, Sarath Kumara Gunaratna, Monitoring MP Sajin Vass Gunawardena, Chief Opposition Whip John Amaratunga, External Affairs Ministry Secretary Kshenuka Seneviratne and the President’s Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath also participated.
