Opposition to bring ‘No Confidence Motion’ against Minister John Amaratunga

Colombo, 03 February, (Asiantribune.com):

Leader of the Opposition Nimal Siripala de Silva told Parliament yesterday that he would be moving a ‘No Confidence Motion’ against Minister of Public Order, Disaster Management and Christian Affairs John Amaratunga.

The Opposition Leader moving a motion at the time of adjournment of House on the issue of removal of Mohan Peiris from the office of Chief Justice said that Minister Amaratunga’s conduct in connection to recent incidents that occurred in several local government authorities had proved that the latter had failed to carry out his duties properly.

"We repeatedly brought it to the notice of the government that SLFP members are being assaulted and harassed by UNPers during the post-election period. He as the minister responsible has failed to bring the situation under control. We no longer have confidence in him. Thus, we will be moving a no confidence motion against him seeking his ouster from the portfolio," Leader of the Opposition Nimal Siripala de Silva told Parliament

Opposition Leader Silva said SLFP members had been assaulted at Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha and a senior government politician was behind that attack. There were allegations against Minister Amaratunga in that regard and the law of jungle was prevailing instead of rule of law and yahapalanaya (good governance) promised to the people, he said adding, that the UPFA members were planning to discuss the matter at length and would move the no confidence motion on Feb. 10.
