No-confidence Motion Against Minister John Amaratunga Handed Over To Parliament Secretary General

Colombo, 07 January, (Asiantribune.com):

The opposition UPFA handed over the no confidence motion against Minister of Public Order and Disaster Management John Amaratunga today to the Parliament Secretary General.

The motion signed by 114 members and was handed over to the Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dassanayaka by a group of MPs led by Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva.

Leader of the Opposition Nimal Siripala de Silva told last week that the opposition intended to present a no confidence motion against Minister John Amaratunga over his failure to prevent attacks on supporters of the opposition and local government representatives.

Opposition Leader, in a statement to Parliament last week, said that Minister Amaratunga’s conduct in connection with recent incidents which occurred in several local government authorities have proven that the latter has failed in performing his duties.

The Opposition MPs stated that Minister Amaratunga's alleged involvement in the assault on the Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman is further proof of their allegations.
