Tissa Attanayake and Sarana Gunawardena released on bail

Colombo, 11 February, (Asiantribune.com):

Former Health Minister Tissa Attanayake was today released on bail with two sureties of Rs.1 million each. Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Ganmage fixed the next hearing for March 11.

Mr. Attanayake was arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) on February 2 on charges of displaying a forged document at a media conference during the presidential election campaign

In the meantime, former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena, has been also released on bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court this morning.

Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya released the suspect on a personal bail of Rs. 60 million and a cash bail of Rs. 150,000.

Earlier, the Magistrate too ordered the Department of Immigration and Emigration (DIE) to impound the passport of the former Deputy Minister.

In the ‘B’ report submitted to the court, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed 50 charges against Gunawardena, following his alleged involvement in fraudulent activities as the Chairman of the National Lottery Board and a Deputy Minister since 2006.
