Spoorthi wins Super Singer Junior 4 Title

By S.H.Moulana - Riyadh

Spoorthi the little 9-year-old girl from Andhra won the popular ‘Super Singer Junior 4 Title’, conducted by Vijay TV of Tamil Nad.

Although the little girl spoke very little Tamil her pronunciation of the lyrics in the Tamil songs she chose to sing were perfect.

From the word go she was one of the hot favorites to win the title.

Sri Lankan born Jessica Judes, currently domiciled in Canada, finished runner up and Haripriya one of the popular choices finished third.

The winner gets a town house worth 7 million Indian rupees in Chennai, the runner up gets 1 kg. of gold and the third gets a car worth a million Indian rupees.

Jessica chose a song about the Tamils’ plight in the final, which moved many and few of the spectators started tearing (including the writer who watched it on a live telecast).

At the presentation ceremony, Jessica’s parents promised to donate the entire winnings of their daughter for the Tamil refugees’ cause in Tamil Nad.

This gesture drew a thundering applause from the spectators.

The VIP seats were packed with legendary singers and artists. Notably, we could see Dhanush, the popular actor and singers Shankar Mahadevan, Mano, Chitra and Subha.

The 10 month long contest came to an end with the selection of winners on Friday, 20 February.

This program which was telecast by Vijay TV on weekdays was extremely popular among all Tamil speaking people all over the world and generally among music lovers too.

There were 6 finalists and it was announced that there were well over a billion votes cast for all 6 contestants.

There was no doubt that Spoorthi was one of the most versatile singers among them and highly talented.

Once in an interview, she said that she started singing, in fact, when she was only 7 months old!

Vijay TV has already started its hunt for the audition for Super Singer Senior 5, which is to commence very soon.

Some of the past winners of this contest, which is similar to ‘American Idol’ of the US, have already become successful playback singers in Tamil cinemas.

Look out for Spoortthi in another 5 to 6 years time singing for famous stars, while Jessica and Haripriya, who are already in their early teens, could be heard sooner than later.

Our best wishes to the winner, runners up and their proud parents. Thank you Vijay TV, keep up the good work Vijay TV!
