Sri Lanka Vs. Bangladesh: will this be the turning point for Sri Lankan cricket to win ICC world cup 2015?

By Nalin Abeysekera

Cricket is all about excitement, uncertainty and fun. There are many arguments on recent “form” of Sri Lankan cricket. Anyway Sri Lanka will get an opportunity against Bangladesh and this match can be really critical for our cricketers to prove their potential to win ICC world cup 2015.

This match will be played in Melbourne Cricket Ground(MCG), Victoria. In last five matches played in the same venue Sri Lanka has won 3 matches with 60% winning percentage. Interestingly this is the first One Day International (ODI) which Bangladesh is playing at MCG.

So far both teams had played 37 ODIs which Sri Lanka has won 32 matches. Bangladesh managed to defeat Sri Lanka four times and all the matches were played at Bangladesh. Seven matches were played at neutral venues and all had won by Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is one of the countries which Bangladesh has never beaten in the World Cup.

Sri Lankan fans are looking at trio of Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Tillakaratne Dilshan with many expectations. That can be justified as they are the only three players scored eight ODI centuries against Bangladesh .And also it is worth to note that 150 runs scored by Angelo Mathews in his last three innings against Bangladesh without being dismissed.

Lasith Malinga is the expectation with his proven records against Bangladesh as he leads the wicket-takers' list for Sri Lanka against Bangladesh with 17 wickets at an average of 20.64. And Thisara Perrera will be one expectation and he has already demonstrated his talent in the match against Afghanistan by questioning his omission of first ODI against New Zealand in this series.

Like former Nalandian Ishara Amrarasinghe performed in 2007-2008 with three wickets for 44(Commonwealth Bank Series - 12th Match - Australia v Sri Lanka, which Sri Lanka has won by 13 runs) there can be unexpected performance from the bowlers like Suranga Lakmal and Rangana Hearth .

And Dinesh Chandimal can be the best option for middle order by looking at the conditions at MCG as a change in strategies.
