Desecrating and Defiling the National Flag

By Sithy A. Zulkifli

Let us draw attention to the prognostication visualized and promulgated by the Most Venerable Chief Prelates of the Asgiriya and Malwatta Chapters – The late Most Venerable Aggamahapanditha Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Rathanapala Mahanayake Thero of the Asgiriya Chapter and The Most Venerable Tibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thero of the Malwatta Chapter.

At the moment when our incumbent President Maithripala Sirisena triumphed over the profligate, debauched and corrupt rule of Mahinda Rajapaksa, these two great Most venerable personalities expressed apprehension and fear that it will be an uphill task for Mr Maithripala Sirisena to move forward, by giving us the indication that there will be obstructions, barricades, conspiracies and diabolical plots to destroy the good governance proclaimed by the Elected President.

This prophecy became more than true when from day one onwards, the infernal machinery of evil, with its cunning ingenuity and devilish wickedness, was unleashed on His Excellency the President, his supporters and associates. The whole country was watching and the whole world was watching the underhand, uncouth and vulgar behavior of the Rajapaksas and the members of their cult.

The greed, rapacity, reprehensible acquisitiveness and insatiable desire for wealth, power and more power overwhelmed the cult, when they committed the most serious and hateful of all crimes on the evening of the fateful day, when the former Defence Secretary, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was hauled before the Bribery Commission.

The unpardonable crime – Desecrating and defiling and sullying the National Flag of our beloved country with malicious intent – this crime tantamount to treason – a very severely punishable offence.

The manner in which this demonstration outside the Bribery Commission, was perpetrated with the sole intention of violent confrontation. This has aroused anger, resentment, disgust and outrage in the mind of each and every decent citizen of Sri Lanka.

Freedom that was wrested from the Rajapaksa presidency, after a decade of slavery and thralldom after January 09th, has been taken to such extremism where they even went to the extent of defying court orders and constitutional protection of the minorities. It is very clearly seen that - “Excessive freedom opens up the floodgates of disaster”

Gammanpila the inveterate liar propping up the Rajapaksas says that he regrets using a distorted national flag.

Dallas Alahapperuma, a senior politician says that he apologizes because he had not seen the distorted flag even though he was waving it.

And all the other vassals of the Rajapaksa cult are trying to wiggle out from taking responsibility of this dastardly and despicably cowardly act. And these are the people who are making a hue and cry that they are the rulers fit to rule the country.
They think that the people of this country are clowns, jokers, vulgarly foolish and mental degenerates like them.

The people’s power transformed the country’s destiny from an Oligarchy rule – A political system governed by a few people to the rule of Democracy – A Government of the people.

What their pea-brained intelligence does not realize is that : “Destroying a countries flag is to destroy freedom itself.”

We would like to drill into the thick heads of these bone-headed cult members that, in the interest of the people of this country – “if you cannot do any good to the country, please do not do anything evil to jeopardize and destabilize the peace and harmony in our country.”

We are strongly of the opinion that the incumbent president is fully aware of the dire consequences of this treachery by the members of his how own alliance. We also hope that very vigorous steps would be taken to punish such criminal offenders very severely without any fear or favour. Otherwise, this action, if it goes unpunished will serve as the greatest of all precedents for every crook, criminal, conspirator and hate monger.

An Important Reminder- A young girl of the Tamil community, in her eagerness to record her visit to the revered Sigiriya frescoes, scratched her name, without having any knowledge that she is doing any harm. This action of hers was deemed to be taken as actually defiling and desecrating the national treasure. She was taken into custody, remanded and jailed. She is still in jail despite a Presidential Order to release her.

But all those, so-called responsible members of the parliament and all those grown-up members of the Rajapaksa cult, who defiled and desecrated the National Flag and are still roaming about the country unrestricted, The national newspapers report that, the Colombo Chief Magistrate orders that they appear before the Court on May 8 on charges of Contempt of Court. There is no word of the defiling and desecrating the national flag and not a single person has been ordered to be taken into custody.

Is this the Freedom that the Good Governance is trying to project? Where is the Justice eagerly and persistently desired by the people? Will it happen in any near future?
