Colombo, 11 May, (Asiantribune.com):

Former Monitoring MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena was remanded by Fort Magistrate Courts today until May 20 .

Gunawardena was arrested earlier this afternoon by CID over the misuse of vehicles of the Presidential Secretariat. He had arrived at CID to give a statement over the incident earlier in the day.

Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said Mr. Gunawardana was arrested after the CID summoned him to record a statement on the misuse of these vehicles.

The CID had on February 26 recorded a statement from Mr. Gunawardane over corruption charges made against him by the Voice against Corruption (VaC), an organisation spearheaded by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Provincial Councillor Wasantha Samarasinghe.

Mr. Gunawardena was also questioned by the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID) on March 18 over allegations of non-payment of installments with regard to the leasing of 33 vehicles.

Gunawardena is accused of using 22 vehicles leased by the President Secretariat Office from LOLC.

Recently, the police also announced that they don’t know the whereabouts of over 120 vehicles belong to the President Secretariat Office. The Police Spokesperson also requested the public to notify the police regarding any information leading to these missing vehicles.
