Harvard Appoints Patrick Mendis as Senior Fellow

Cambridge, MA, 28 May, (Asiantribune.com):

he Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University appointed Dr. Patrick Mendis as a senior fellow of the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation.

“I am indeed honored to associate with the Ash Center as I continue my teaching and research activities on Sino-American relations,” said Mendis, an alumnus of the Kennedy School. Author of Peaceful War: How the Chinese Dream and the American Destiny Create a Pacific New World Order, Mendis will work on projects related to U.S.-China relations with Director Anthony Saich of the Ash Center.

A former American diplomat and a military professor in Japan and South Korea during the Clinton and Bush administrations, Dr. Mendis currently serves as a commissioner to the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO, an appointment by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Dr. Mendis is a distinguished scholar and senior expert for the Confucian Institute at George Mason University.

While serving as an affiliate professor of public and international affairs as well as an adjunct professor of geography and geoinformation science at GMU, he taught in China as a distinguished visiting professor at Guangdong, Nanjing, Tongji, Wuhan, and Zhejiang Universities and lectured at more than 20 universities and academies in 22 provinces, including Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Dr. Kaori Urayama at Harvard wrote that “your expertise in Chinese politics is consistent with the Ash Center’s China Programs research agenda. We are especially delighted that you will be collaborating with Prof. Anthony Saich.”

The Harvard Kennedy School fosters excellence in government around the world and conducts a number of international programs, including the Shanghai Executive Leadership Program and China’s Leaders in Development in collaboration with Tsinghua University in Beijing.
