Ambassador Tilak Ranaviraja, Presents Credentials to Director General of UNESCO

Paris, 12 October, (Asiantribune.com):

Sri Lanka Ambassador and Permanent Delegate HE Tilak Ranaviraja, presented credentials today, 06th October 2015, to UNESCO Director General Madam Irina Bokova at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France.

During his meeting with the Director General, Ambassador Ranaviraja underlined the importance of UNESCO to Sri Lanka, particularly stressing upon the significance of intercultural dialogue for peace. He expressed continuing commitment of Sri Lanka to work closely with UNESCO especially to promote sustainable development, education and culture.

Madam Bokovo, expressed warm sentiments towards Sri Lanka and her people and commended the different initiatives undertaken by the country in UNESCO which had led to great moments of celebration of culture. She also acknowledged the efforts taken by Sri Lanka in promoting the concept of ‘Education for all’ initiative promulgated by the organization.

UNESCO is a specialized agency of the United Nations system whose primary objective is to contribute to peace and security through cooperation programs in the areas of education, culture, the sciences and communication and information.

Ranaviraja was a senior public servant with a service spanning over 40 years and had served as Secretary to a number of key Ministers including Public Security, Law & Order, Mass Media & Communication, Post & Telecommunications, Health & Indigenous Medicines, Social Welfare, Power & Energy, and Mahaweli (River Basin) Development.

On the international front he had also served as a Consultant/Advisor to the UNDP/UNEP/UNHRC/WHO and the UNOPS.
