'Towards a Better World Order,' by Asanga Abeyagoonasekera presented to the President

Colombo, 21 November, (Asiantribune.com):

Mr. Asanga Abeyagoonasekera presented his book "Towards a better world order" to the President Maithripala Sirisena on 18th November 2015.

The book was launched by late Most Ven.Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero along with Prof.Carlo Fonseka and Prof.Vini Vitharana. The book has received praise from Dr.Edward de Bono father of lateral thinking, former Foreign Minister of Singapore George Yeo and many more eminent personalities from around the world.

According to Prof. W.Lawrence S.Prabhakar, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Madras Christian College, India, Asanga Abeyagoonasekera’s "Towards a Better World Order" is a blend of reminiscent thoughts of his highly illustrious father's fine duty as an exemplary citizen of Sri Lanka, whose ideals and vision for the country were the most noble and truly empowering. His father laid down his life for the Sri Lankan nation having succumbing to the targeted assassination of the most violent means.

Asanga had gained the inspiration of his highly esteemed father's sense of public duty and public service. Asanga's role and stewardship in various capacities in public life and government in Sri Lanka has been truly inspiring for a young person of his age, having distinguished himself in various capacities of government, public policy research and as an emerging national leader.

"Towards a Better World Order" is a systematic collection of quintessential thoughts and ideas of Asanga, well elucidated and analysed lucidly, laced with facts and analysis. The structure of the book is divided into ‘Dateline Colombo’ that details the various issues and challenges the nation faced for nearly three and half decades of violent conflict. Asanga's views of moderation, balance and the imperative to elucidate a strong civic and publicist voice is well echoed in his writings. The second part of the book are about his ‘Selected Speeches’ that have been more from his heart than his mind, drafted with erudition and vision. The section covers a wide swath of issues of Sri Lanka's nation building, the complex tasks of peace and reconciliation and the importance to articulate a Sri Lankan world view thus eclectically combining Sri Lanka's discourse on domestic and international affairs. The third section of the book covers about ‘Select Articles’ that reflect on issues of national and international importance and reminiscent in scope.

This book makes a good reading and enables to infer the ideals and goals of an exemplary citizen of a nation that is striving towards good governance, equity, development, peace, stability and progress". The book is available at Vijitha Yapa.
