Minister Mervyn Silva under attack

Colombo, 27 December, (Asiantribune.com): Staffs of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation made a strong protest against the Labor Minister Mervyn Silva for assaulting this morning, T.M.G.Chandrasekara, News Director of the Rupavahini Corporation. The Minister had also threatened the SLRC staff for not telecasting footage of his speech at a function held in Matara Yesterday.

Subsequently Mervyn Silva, was held as a hostage by the SLRC employees.

Reports revealed that Minister Mervyn Silva was assaulted by the enraged staff of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation after being taken out of the chairman’s room to the lobby by the police.

According to the SLRC sources, Minister Silva had stormed into the News Room of the state owned television station and dragged T.M.G.Chandrasekara by his neck to the chairman's office and assaulted him.

Immediately the angry SLRC workers then prevented the Minister from leaving the premises until he apologized.

The Minister was later released by the SLRC staff and the Armed Commandos rescued him.

He was also physically attacked by the angry workers when he was leaving, the sources said.

Meanwhile Minister of Media Anura Priyadarshana Yapa has condemned Minister Mervyn Silva for assaulting the News Director of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation T.M.G. Chandrasekara. Yapa said this morning’s (Dec. 27th) incident was an unfortunate one that should not have taken place.

Mervyn Silva and his henchmen had also threatened the SLRC staff for not telecasting footage of his speech at a function in Matara Yesterday.

SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena has condemned Minister Mervyn Silva for assaulting the News Director of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.
He added that this matter will be reported to the SLFC Central Committee that meets on January 02nd.
