The need for the formation of the Democratic Tamil National Front - Anandasangaree Clarifies

Colombo, 15 May, (

V.Anandasangaree, Secretary General-TULF has explained the need for the recent formation of a Democratic Tamil National Front.

His statement was as usual was an attack on the Tamil National Alliance and of their politicking.

In a statement released to to media Anandasangaree has stated that the formation of the new Alliance ‘DTNF’ as usual has given room for various speculations.

He also stated that without considering the merits and de merits of this new move, some as usual, have assumed things on their own and have started playing the same old record they used to play on such occasion in the past. Certain thoughts that originated in the minds of some are repeatedly told with the purpose of making the innocent people to believe what they say.

The statement issued by V.Anandasangaree, Secretary General-TULF went on state as follows:

“This is in one way a treacherous act and not going to be of any benefit, neither to the people nor to the country. It is a long standing ambition of many to form such a democratic body. I had been repeatedly telling the Tamil people that all of them should get united under one banner. But no one took any note of it. At this time many Tamil groups met me and told me that if we remain divided the Tamils will have to undergo more hardships. It is for this reason that the new Front is being formed.

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) without discussing anything among the four partners, act dictatorially with decisions taken by members of one group alone.

The Tamils very badly need a new democratic front. The Tamil people face many problems every day.

Poverty is in the forefront. Many carry metal pieces in various parts of their body. Some Ex- LTTE cadre although rehabilitated, do not have even a piece of land and are on the verge of committing suicide. They have no houses fit for habitation, no proper food and unable to live fearlessly.

They also do not have good NGOs to give them support. The people had high hopes of getting help through the TNA, but the members of the TNA are fighting among themselves. They could not negotiate with the government to have the Political prisoners released. In the East they face the Sampoor problem, in the North the water problem and the problems of the Ex LTTE cadre are all a big threat for peaceful living. In a situation like this there are a lot of things to be done for their peaceful living.

It is distressing to note that the large sum of money allocated for the North had been returned to the treasury. This alone clearly shows their inefficiency and their incapacity to administer. Apart from this more distressing is the re-arrest of the released political prisoners.

In the present political situation, the problems of the people including those of their fundamental rights are not properly tackled. The main purpose of the new alliance is to find proper ways and means, through a new democratic alternate leadership, which will not merely voice the grievances of the people but also endeavour to solve them by taking them up with the Indian and Sri Lankan governments and with many others if necessary, with suitable solutions.

The central committee of the TULF will take up these issues and have them thoroughly discussed with the view to take forward the future plans of the alliance. For this purpose the Central Committee of the TULF is summoned for a meeting at 10.00 am on 14th May 2016 at the party head office in Jaffna at which the matter of the new alliance also will be discussed, “ the statement concluded.
