Alavi to undergo a surgery

Colombo, 11 June, (Asiantribune.com):

Alavi Moulana - the Octogenarian will be undergoing a surgery for liver complication, a spokesman in the family revealed to Asian Tribune.

Last week Alavi Moulana was admitted to the Durdan Hospita, Colombo for a week and once his conditions slightly improved he was discharged home for recuperation and rest to undergo a major surgery for his liver complication.

Moulana is a veteran Sri Lankan politician and leader. He entered politics in 1948 as a Trade Unionist. In 1956 he joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and in 1960, under the leadership of Sirimavo Bandaranayake. He became the leader of the Trade Union Movement of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. Moulana was appointed as one of the Vice-Presidents of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the Senior Vice-President of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya.

He was the 5th Governor of Western Province and he tendered his resignation once the Government under Maithripala Srisena was formed after January 2015.

Once the news of Moulana’s illness emerged, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited him at his house in Dehiwela before his departure to Japan.
