Colombo, 18 June, (Asiantribune.com):

International Day of Yoga 2016 is being celebrated all across Sri Lanka. In this context, a mega event in Colombo will be held on Tuesday, 21 June 2016 at the Viharamahadevi Open Air Theatre.

On 11 December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution piloted by India declaring June 21 each year as the “International Day of Yoga”. The resolution was supported by more than 170 countries, with Sri Lanka being one of the first co-sponsors of the Resolution.

Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition that embodies unity of mind and body. Yoga, like Ayurveda, forms a part of shared heritage of India and Sri Lanka.

The first International Day of Yoga was celebrated with great fanfare in Colombo on 21 June 2015 at the iconic Galle Face Green, with the participation of more than a thousand yoga enthusiasts.

To celebrate the second International Day of Yoga, the High Commission of India, in collaboration with established yoga institutions of Colombo, is organizing a yoga programme at Viharamahadevi Open Air Theatre, Colombo 7 on 21 June 2016 from 6 am to 8 am.

All are cordially invited to participate and practice yoga, pranayama and meditation to rejuvenate their body, mind and soul. Participation in the event is free for all members of the public.
