Right To Information Commission Appointed

Colombo, 01 October, (Asiantribune.com):

Mahinda Gammanpila a former Ministry Secretary was appointed as the Chairman of the Right to Information (RTI) Commission by President Maithripala Sirisena.

President had appointed S. G. Punchihewa, T. Selvakumaran, Salim Marzook and Kishali Pinto Jayawardhana had been appointed as the members of the Commission.

The appointments have been made based on the recommendations of the Constitutional Council.

The RTI Bill passed in parliament on 24th June, calls for the establishment of the "Right to Information Commission". The Commission will monitor the performance of public authorities and information officers.
