Colombo Bomb Blast killed 4, injured 28, of the injured 4 in serious condition; death toll expected to rise

Colombo, 02 January, (Asiantribune.com): Latest report on the bomb blast in Union Place, Colombo 2, right in front of the Nippon Hotel at 9.30 AM this morning killed four people including one soldier and three civilians and 28 others injured in the explosion. Death toll is expected rise.

According to the hospital sources, one woman is among the dead. Also, there are 17 civilians and 11 soldiers among the injured.
Four of the injured are in serious conditions, the sources added.
Army source alleged that LTTE has carried out the bomb attack targeting civilians and an Army bus carrying sick personnel at Union Place, Slave Island in Colombo this morning.

According to Sri Lanka’s Defense Ministry “The bomb has been apparently placed inside one of the external unit of the Air conditioning machines of the Nippon Hotel. The hotel is located opposite Infant Jesus Roman Catholic Church. The church building and several vehicles that were at the location have been damaged due to the explosion.“

Military spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara said “Tamil Tiger rebels were suspected of detonating the bomb, which had been planted opposite a small hotel and was targeting a bus that was heading to the hospital with soldiers who had been wounded in battles with the Tamil rebels.
