Attorney General withdrew an indictment against Basil Rajapaksa and R.R.K. Ranawaka

Colombo, 06 December, (Asiantribune.com):

The Attorney General today withdrew an indictment against former minister Basil Rajapaksa and former Director General of the Divineguma Department, R.R.K. Ranawaka for the misappropriation of Divi Neguma funds, amounting Rs. 29 million, to print 5 million almanacs.

Rajapaksa and . Ranawaka were acquitted by the Colombo High Court and the travel ban imposed on him was also lifted and the court has also released the passports of the accused.

The former Minister and the other officials were initially remanded by the Kaduwala Magistrate’s Court earlier.

Basil Rajapaksa and the other ministry officials were arrested by the police on April 22. They were arrested on charges of alleged misappropriation of funds in the Divi Neguma Department, which came under the purview of the Economic Development Ministry.
