Sri Lanka Food Festival in China

Chinese outbound tourism is showing a rapid growth. The outbound departures reached over 120 million persons in 2016.

Examining the trends, it has to be mentioned that the tourist demand structure has been visibly changed.

Destination tourism organizations, domestic and foreign tourism enterprises of china and Sri Lanka both need to better understand the new trends and new features of China outbound tourism market in 2017.

Strengthening the business cooperation between Chinese and Sri Lankan tourism organizations is an opportunity the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing was seeking as the Embassy of Sri Lanka is quite keen to capture a fair share of the Chinese tourists.

Such an opportunity was arranged through the collaboration of the Embassy and The Association for Sri Lanka China Cultural Friendship association to organize the Sri Lanka Food festival at the prestigious Minzu Hotel of Beijing.

The veteran Sri Lankan Chef, Mr. Pubilis of the Mount Lavinia Hotel Sri Lanka was specially flown for the occasion and he created several special menus. The two week inaugurated during the Middle of November brought a lot of Chinese to the Hotel who tasted the Sri Lankan food.

Mr. Indrananda Abeysekera, Chairman of Sri Lanka – China Association of Social and Cultural Cooperation who is an active practitioner of Public Diplomacy flew to Beijing for this important occasion.

Mrs. Shani Calyaneratne, the Deputy Ambassador of the Embassy of Sri Lanka, Chef Mr. Pubilis and Management of the Chain of Hotels declared open the food festival by lighting of the traditional oil lamp.
