Karuna’s bail condition relaxed

Colombo, 02 February, (Asiantribune.com):

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Bandara, yesterday allowed Vinayagamoorthy Mularithan alias Karuna Amman to report to the FCID, once a month every last Sunday, instead of once a week.

Earlier, the FCID yesterday, informed court that the investigations against Vinayagamoorthi Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman on alleged misuse of a state vehicle have been concluded and the matter has been referred to the AG for advice.

In the meantime, Karuna's Counsel Kanchana Ratwatte requested for the reduction of his bail conditions saying that there was a security concern in reporting to the FCID each Sunday.

The counsel requested that the suspect be granted permission to appear before the FCID once a month.

Karuna Amman is suspected of misusing a state vehicle worth Rs. 90 million when he was a Minister in the former regime. He is charged under the abuse of Public Property Law.
