A gala event to celebrate Sri Lankan independence

Sri Lankan embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia organized a gala event on Monday the 27th to celebrate the country’s 69th independence day celebration at the capital’s prestigious Tuwaiq Palace in the diplomatic quarters.

The chief guest, Governor of Riyadh, prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud was received with beating of ‘magul bera’ in the real Sri Lankan tradition.

Practically ambassadors of every country representing in Riyadh participated in this unique event organized in grand scale. Guests were seen showing great interest in the varieties of displays promoting what Sri Lanka can provide for tourists Arab tourists as well as for those from other countries.

Ambassador Azmi Thassim in his welcome speech assured the guests the friendly and warm reception awaiting every tourist arriving in Sri Lanka.

All guests were served with dinner in diversified cuisines including Sri Lanka’s kothu, hoppers, kevun, kokis, wattalappam etc.

The guests while leaving carried with them packages containing packets of tea and literature about Sri Lanka in English and Arabic.

On the whole the event was highly successful and helped to promote Sri Lanka in great deal.

The organizers under the leadership of the Sri Lankan ambassador deserve all credit for their tireless work in seeing this event a great success.
