Ceasefire Agreement with the LTTE is a Joke – Dr Palitha Kohona

Sydney, 08 January, ( Sri Lankan Foreign Secretary Dr Palitha Kohona who is on a semi-official tour in Australia said 2002 ceasefire agreement between Goverment of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam is a joke.

In responding to a media release issued by Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith Dr Kohona said that members of Sri Lankan diaspora in Australia must present the correct picture of Sri lanka to their respective members of parliaments and their voices should be heard at federal parliament for supporting people of Sri Lanka.

Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith, issuing a media release, has expressed his deep concern over the decision of Government of Sri Lanka to withdraw from the 2002 ceasefire agreement with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

Lal Rankothge , President of Sri Lanka Australia Forum (ASF) which is a newly formed organization said that he has already informed his member orgnisation to write to Australian Foreign Minister to inform him the correct picture of 2002 ceasfire agreement between Government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE.

Rankothge further said that on request and facilitation of Gothami Indikadahena, Acting Consul General in Sydney, ASF has already co-ordinated a meeting with Dr Palitha Kohona and key members of the Sri Lankan diaspora in Sydney on coming Friday at the Sri Lankan Consulate in Sydney on the issue of recent developments in Sri Lanka after withdrawal of 2002 ceasefire agreement.
