Minister Rajitha vowed to solve problems of Tamil people before celebrating next May Day 2018

Jaffna, 03 May,(Asiantribune.com):

Minister of Health Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, addressing the Democratic National Movement's May Day Rally in Jaffna, on May 1, said the Government would take steps to solve the problems of the Tamil people before celebrating next May Day 2018.

He said the people from North and South who were killed during the war belonged to the oppressed class. I always have demanded the Cabinet to solve the problems of the Tamil people.

Dr. Rajitha Senaratne and MP Chathura Senaratne were at the rally organized by the Democratic National Front, at the Sankilian Thoddam in Nallur on the May Day.

Minister Dr. Senaratne declared that he rejected racism, casts differences and religious differences. He only respected humanity.

Referring to his early days Dr. Senaratne said that he had visited Jaffna with his father when he was a young boy of 15 years. "My father received overwhelming support from Jaffna when he contested the Medical Council election. I have great respect for the people of the North and East."

He said: "The National Unity Government is determined to solve all humanitarian problems of the people in the North and the East.

He added, “There can be delays in finding solutions for the problems, but the present government is very much concerned about the expectations of the people in the North and East. It was at this venue during the Presidential polls campaign that the pledges were made to solve the unresolved problems of the people in the North and East. So the government has not deviated its stance on addressing to the grievances of the people in the North and East."

He said that he had done his best to solve the ethnic conflict through discussions and travelled to the North on several occasions in the past, even when the war was in progress. He always wanted to share power and his struggle turned successful on January 8, 2015.

He also said, The children from the South and the North should be provided with employment. Although the Government had promised to solve problems concerning the Northern people, it has been very slow.

Speaking on the issue of involuntarily disappeared persons, he said that the government would expedite the process of solving the grievances of the families of the missing persons.

He also added that the legal measures would be expedited, according to the legal system in the country, to release the political prisoners.

The process should be accelerated according to the legal system in the country. Missing children should be found, lands should be returned to its rightful owners and political prisoners should be freed, he added.

The minister also pointed out that the Northern Provincial Council Health Minister P. Sathyalingam had handed over to him a big list of involuntarily disappeared persons and the government would do its best to solve the issue.

Speaking on improving the health sector in the North Dr. Senaratne added that government was planning to build a big hospital with state-of-the-art facilities on par with that of International standards.

The Leader of the Movement Sudharshi Vijayakanth and many others addressed the event. Dr. Kapila Ranasinghe, SPC Managing Director Dr. Rumi Mohammad and many others were present on the occasion.
