Colombo city centre bomb was placed in roadside phone booth

Colombo, 08 January, (Asiantribune.com): The vicinity of Lake House, located at the heart of Colombo has now been cordoned off following an explosion nearby at 7:50 pm.

A roadside bomb was placed in a phone booth, in the Colombo High Security area, 50 meters away from the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Head quarters near Lake House building resulting in the explosion.

Members of security forces in the vicinity report say there are no casualties, but only minimal of material damages. Only two people are 'mildly treated' for the sudden shock, hospital reports said. The dark plume of smoke has now subsided. Eyewitnesses said that the explosion took place at a building located near the famous Regal Cinema, close to Air Force Headquarters.

The Police said some roads are closed near lakehouse due to investigations.

Defence sources reporting from the site say, that no damages were caused to civilians. Police request from the general public to avoid from gathering at such locations as terrorists may await to cause more mayhem.

Search operations are underway, security sources said.
