Six Indian fisherman arrested for poaching

KKS, 24 May, (Asiantribune.com):

National Coastguard personnel attached to a Fast Attack Craft belonging to the Northern Naval Command has arrested near Neduntheevu island, last night, six Indian fishermen who had illegally crossed international maritime boundaries.

The incident occurred in the area under the surveillance of the Northern Naval command, where speed boats were deployed and arrests were made in the area north of Kovilan.

A fishing dhow used by the fisherman was also taken into custody.

Upon bringing the arrested dhow and fishing gear to the naval base, SLNS Elara, the fishermen are due to be handed over to the Jaffna Assistant Fisheries Director for onward legal action.
