Sarrath Kongahage - President’s Media Advisor

Colombo, 15 June, (Asiantribune.com):

The senior attorney-at-law, Mr. Sarrath Kongahage, the former ambassador to Germany, Switzerland and the High Commissioner to South Africa, was appointed as President’s Media Advisor by the President of Sri Lanka, Maithreepala Sirisena.

Mr. Kongahage also appointed as the new Chairman of the Sri Lanka Foundation and assumed his duties on the new post on 9th of June 2017.

Mr. Sarrath Kongahage received his BA with honors in Mass Communication from Kelaniya University. He dispensed his duties as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, acting Chairman of Lake House Newspaper group and Director Editorial, the CEO of Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation and as Chief Executive Officer of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.

He served as a member of parliament, the Chairman of the Central Provincial Council and its first oppositional leader.

He offered his services as a legal consultant to the Bribery Commission and has an extensive career as a professional in political, legal and print & electronic media.

He was the Director Station at Sirasa and MTV media channels and the Chairman of CENOR foundation.

During 2007-2009 he was a consultant to the Ministry of Mass Media and a founding member of Sri Lanka People’s Party (SLMP) and subsequently became its leader.
