Major General Mahesh Senanayake likely 23rd Army Commander?

Colombo, 28 June, (Asiantribune.com):

Army Commander Crishantha De Silva promoted Chief of Defence Staff, while it is likely that the 50th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lankan Army Mahesh Senanayake expected to be promoted as the 23rd Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.

President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday appointed Army Commander Lt. General Crishantha De Silva as the Chief of Defence Staff , with a promotion to the rank of a four star General, with effect from yesterday.

General De Silva enlisted to the Army on 6th February 1980 and received his commission on 18th July 1981 as a Second Lieutenant in the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers. He assumed duties as the 21st Commander of the Sri Lanka Army on 22 February 2015.

In the meantime ‘Asian Tribune’ learnt that Major General N.U.M Mahesh Senanayake is likely to be promoted to be the new Army Commander, government sources added.

Major General Mahesh Senanayake is currently the 50th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lankan Army.

Earlier, Mahesh Senanayake has been appointed Military Secretary at the Army Headquarters, after his reinstatement.
Later he was transferred to Jaffna as the Security Forces Commander.

The other likely contender for the position of the Army Commander , according to Government sources, is Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Major General Boniface Perera.
