Main suspect involved in Nallur shooting surrenders

Jaffna, 25 July, (Asiantribune.com):

The main suspects involved in the shooting at Nallur in Jaffna on 22nd, last Saturday, surrendered to the Jaffna police, today morning around 8.20 AM .

The incident took place on the evening of Saturday 22nd, near the Nallur Kandasamy Kovil located in Jaffna.

At that time of the incident, Jaffna High Court Judge M. Ilancheliyan, his driver and constable Wimalasiri were traveling in a car, and sergeant Sarath Premachandra was escorting the car in a motorcycle providing security.

The 51-year-old Police sergeant Premachandra was killed and Police Constable Wimalasiri was injured in the shooting.

On Sunday, the Police arrested two suspects at the scene in connection with the shooting and investigations revealed the suspects were brothers and a relative of the main suspect in the shooting.

Police had deployed several teams to arrest the main suspect.

Police spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said 39-year-old Sivarasa Jeyanthan was arrested after he surrendered to the Jaffna Police Station this morning.

The suspect, Sivaraja Jeyanthan (39) is considered to be a former militant, who has not undergone rehabilitation.
