An match without umpires!

By S.H.Moulana

One might think that this is about the ongoing Test Match between Sri Lanka and India, but not at all! This is all about the match played between two political factions in our country.

One is no better than the other in batting, bowling and fielding. Although we select the team we have no power to interrupt the play under any reason but there will be few referrals to satisfy us but the match will go on whatever hue and cry we make!

Allowed are no balls, wide even an LBW is not out. No appeal against bad light too. Readers know what kind of match now we are talking about.

However, we are proud of our golden past, when the teams were captained by eminent leaders like DS, Dudley, SWRD and Sirimavo and the like, who lost even what they inherited from their forefathers for the sake of serving the people. The trend now is just the opposite.

Let’s see what Sir Ray Davies had to say about this lot ‘Money and corruption are ruining the land, crooked politicians betray the working man, pocketing the profits and treating us like sheep and we’re tired of hearing promises that we know they’ll never keep.’

When we talk about corruption a country that strikes our mind is Mexico, where we have a large number of corrupt individuals operating as politicians.

A study made by the ‘Global Financial Integrity’ (Washington) says Mexico has lost $872 billion in just two decades.
Similarly the drug related crimes and drug mafia have reached a level threatening even the life of innocent civilians.

This is another area where many of our people fear that we also will be led to such a situation unless the government takes some meaningful actions, very soon.

The recent revelations of ‘import’ of drugs coming into the country tell us that this dangerous product might over take even our essential commodities brought in.

Time for both teams to declare or call off the match and save the country from this menace!

I wind this with the slogan that we should always carry ‘Shame on ‘fame’ through corruption!’
