Chinese Hospital Ship in Colombo

Colombo, 07 August, (Asiantribune.com):

Making a goodwill visit 'Hepingfangzhou', the Hospital Ship of the People's Liberation Army Navy of China arrived to the country today (06th Sunday, August), states navy media. The ship was accorded a traditional naval welcome by the Sri Lanka Navy upon its arrival at the Port of Colombo.

'Hepingfangzhou' has been constructed in a bid to engage swiftly in humanitarian response to disasters around the world and it is also popularly known as Ark Peace.

The 178 m long and 24 m in wide ship carries a crew of 381 personnel. It has treated over 120,000 people across the world during her circumnavigation.
The ship is equipped with all in-house facilities including, theaters, intensive care units, consultant medical services, residential treatment units and Computerized Tomography Machines. It also has a helicopter that can be utilized to transfer patients during an emergency.

During their stay in the country, the ship's crew together with Sri Lanka Navy medical personnel is scheduled to conduct several medical camps. The ship will leave the Colombo harbour on Wednesday (09th August).
