Deputy Leader of Ava Criminal Gang Arrsted

Colombo, 07 August, (Asiantribune.com):

The Deputy Leader of criminal gang ‘Ava Group’ has been arrested along with 5 other gang members’ today in Colombo as well as in Jaffna.

Police reported that the Deputy Leader Sathayavel Nathan alias Nisha Victor, and Raj Kumar Jey Kumar alias Vinod, Kulendran Manojith alias Manoj and Shiwa Suddhaniam Pool were arrested in the Pettah Bus Stand and another at Mattakuliya on Sunday night, while two other members of the gang , Sri Kanthan Kukadas and Arjunam Prasanna were arrested in Jaffna.

Police said they had also recovered two swords which were in their possession. Those arrested were found to be residents of Jaffna, Kokuvil and Inuvil.

‘Asian Tribune,’ learnt that Sathyavel Nathan Nishanthan, alias “Nisha Victor,” who goes by the former Mannar LTTE leader Lt. Colonel Victor alias Marcelin Fusellus killed in 1984 in Mannar. He is it is learnt is the Deputy Leader and was mainly involved as the leader of the women gang of the Ava group.

A series of acts of violence had been carried out in Jaffna suburbs such as Manipay, Kopay and Chunnakam by the sword-wielding Ava Group, believed to be inspired by South Indian film ‘Deena’.

The gang in also believed to be behind the recent attack in Kopay.
