A Swedish police officer stabbed in the neck in Stockholm

Stockholm, 31 August, (Asiantribune.com):

A Swedish police officer was stabbed in the neck on Thursday in a busy square in Stockholm.

"The officer was stabbed in the stairwell of a metro station at Medborgarplatsen", the officials said.

Witnesses on social media said the attacker 'snuck up behind the policeman' and stabbed him 'unprovoked'.

The attacker is said to have crept up behind the police officer before delivering a blow to the neck at around 10.30am this morning.

The entire square and a nearby nursery have been sealed off.

The nursery is attended by 70 children.

There are no indications the building is in danger, a police officer said, adding that we have a number of patrols.

The police were alerted of the incident at 10:30 am local time.

A manhunt for the attacker is now underway.
